A Scout is Thrifty, a scout works to pay his own way. Finding ways to finance a Scouts adventures is always a challenge, but one that is critical to quality programs and experiences for all scouts and units. While many units have fundraisers to support the unit, it is also important to provide opportunities for scouts to earn their way to summer camp, day camp or the monthly scout outings.
In early 2010 Daniel Boone Council Scouts will have that opportunity through the sale of a Camp Discount Card. This card will retail for $5 each and the scout selling the card will earn $2.50 in profit to be set aside within their Pack, Troop or Crew specifically to help pay for their camping fees. The card will be made available in late January and will be sold from February 1, through March 31. The card will include discount coupons from great businesses such as K-Mart, Fun Depot, Diamond Brand, The Asheville Tourists and Mast General Store. Other vendors will also be on the card when it is released.
The card is offered at a very affordable price and purchasers will make their donation back if they use the card even once for a purchase. Units that wish to participate in the Camp Card Program should register online. The cards will be delivered in late January and will be signed out to the unit. Cards that are not sold must be returned to the council office no later than April 5th, or the unit will be charged for the card. Units will be charged $2.50 per card. Please visit Peggy Baillie at the council service center or see your District Executive to get cards for your unit.
